Highway 40 is open again following a fatal accident this morning between Bush Line and Robin Line.

Police are still trying to piece together what happened this morning to cause the single-vehicle crash that claimed one life.

Chatham-Kent OPP Const. Janine Belanger said the accident took place just before 7 a.m. She said the lone male occupant of a northbound Hyundai Accent, a 40-year-old Chatham man, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased after his car hit a tree.

“What we know is the vehicle left the roadway and came to rest against a tree,” she said. “At this point, we don’t know the cause.”

Belanger said technical traffic collision investigators are on scene, and the roads in the area of the crash could reopen shortly.

The crash resulted in Hwy. 40 being closed from Bush Line to Robin Line, while Oldfield Line between Hwy. 40 and Fraser Road was also closed, as was Electric Line between Hwy. 40 and Baldoon Road.
